Common Pradaxa side effects include severe internal bleeding, hemorrhaging, heart attack, and stroke. According to the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”), Pradaxa has been linked to approximately 260 deaths. In response, the FDA is  further investigating.

Pradaxa Side Effects

Since it received FDA approval on October 19, 2010, Pradaxa, a prescription blood thinner, has been prescribed to patients to reduce the risk of stroke or serious blood clots.

Pradaxa is a blood thinner intended to prevent a patient’s blood  from clotting, resulting in a stroke.  More specifically, Pradaxa thins the blood by affecting blood enzymes.   As a consequence of taking the drug, many Pradaxa patients have suffered from gastrointestinal problems as well as serious internal bleeding forcing them to undergo surgery.

Pradaxa side effects include:

  • Fatigue,
  • Unusual bleeding & hemorrhaging,
  • Pink or brown urine,
  • Red or black stools,
  • Coughing blood,
  • Vomiting that resembles blood or looks like coffee grounds,
  • Bleeding from the gums,
  • Regular nosebleeds,
  • Joint pain & swelling,
  • Headaches,
  • Dizziness,
  • Weakness and swelling of the joints,
  • Intestinal bleeding, and even
  • Death.

In fact, patients taking Pradaxa, have a 33% higher risk of suffering a heart attack or severe symptoms of heart disease than patients who are on warfarin, another drug prescribed by doctors use to treat patients at risk of stroke from blood clotting according to a study performed by the Cleveland Clinic.  What is concerning is, that in many cases, many Pradaxa side effects may not be perceived as tied to the drug until more serious complications, such as internal bleeding occur.
